When a series of peculiar murders emerges, a senior police official uncovers an unsettling link between the crimes and his own personal loss.

Maargan Movie Review:

If *Maargan* were a sleuth, it would be the kind that unravels every twist in the case with precision, yet somehow forgets the names of everyone involved. The film nails the blueprint of a top-tier thriller, delivering a grim premise—a murderer whose victims are found with skin mysteriously scorched black. This whodunit carefully plants its clues, and Vijay Antony, serving as both the dependable protagonist and the composer of its tense score, remains the story’s unwavering backbone.

The plot follows ADG Dhruv (Vijay Antony) as he hunts for answers behind these eerie deaths. A fingerprint on a vehicle leads him to Tamizharivu (Ajay Dhishan), a man with an extraordinary photographic memory, connected to swimming and prolonged time underwater. Tamizharivu’s past proves just as tangled as the investigation itself. As Dhruv questions this possible linchpin, the case begins to mirror his own emotional wounds, compelling him to face unresolved pain from the past.

The major shortcoming—one that’s hard to ignore—is that the film lacks a truly captivating hook. It doesn’t offer a singularly magnetic personality to invest in. Tamizharivu, with his tragic backstory, often feels more like a deliberate plot contrivance—a human surveillance system with an overly cinematic recall—than a fully realized character. This weakens the emotional pull; without characters that deeply engage us, the danger feels theoretical rather than urgent.

Even the antagonist, billed as the mastermind of this chaos, stays hidden for so long that their eventual exposure feels less like an earth-shattering twist and more like a routine solution to an overextended puzzle. It plays out almost as a psychological profile of how a killer came to be. Long, drawn-out flashbacks further disrupt the investigation’s momentum.

Still, debut director Leo John Paul approaches the procedural elements with care, methodically piecing together the trail leading to the culprit’s motive. The film touches on themes of bias and trauma with enough gravity to lend the investigation meaning. Clever plotting and the occasional well-placed red herring maintain an air of intrigue until the resolution.

In the end, *Maargan* stands as a solidly crafted entry in the crime thriller genre—a fitting choice if you’re in the mood for a neatly packaged mystery to round out your week.

Maargan is a gripping and intense thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The film’s unique premise—a serial killer targeting women with a mysterious serum that turns their bodies black—sets it apart from typical crime dramas, adding a chilling and almost supernatural layer to the investigation.

The high-ranking police officer’s relentless pursuit of the killer forms the core of the narrative, and the cat-and-mouse game between them is executed with precision. The

Maargan is an intense and engaging film that masterfully blends suspense and mystery. The storyline carries multiple layers — touching on themes of diversity, inclusion, and the vital connection between water and life. Sentiment and emotion are interwoven with compelling character traits, making it a thought-provoking watch.

One of the standout aspects of the film is its editing and direction, brilliantly handled by Leo John Paul. Unlike typical investigative thrillers, Maargan introduces a uni

If you're someone who enjoys thrillers with a spooky undertone, Maargan is a film worth checking out. It blends elements of psychological tension, social commentary, and revenge in a gripping narrative. What stands out most is how the movie explores the dark realities of racism and the disturbing obsession with skin color — themes that feel hauntingly real and relevant even today.

Maargan doesn't just aim to scare; it reflects on how society judges and values people based on superficial appeara

Such a meaningless, pointless, bland movie. for the sake of ' thriller genre ' movies are being churned out. if it is based on psycho. serial killer, then no story, head and tail doesn't require, need to portray some ludicrous reasons for killings.

Everything can be tolerated but the sermons being given by the directors at the end card who all are struggling to end the movie some how. Only two good things are music by Vijay Antony and Characterization of ' Arivu or Tamizh' that debutants perfo

Easily one of the very finest thrillers of this year. The story revolves around serial killings targeting women by injecting them with a chemical leaving their entire body turned into dark. Kudos to the director of this movie for keeping the thrill element so high throughout the entire movie. Right from the very moment it starts to until the very end moment, it keeps one completely hooked on. It doesn't appeal like another serial killer movie n police investigation but offers more in terms of a

I just finished watching Maargan at home, and I honestly regret not watching it in the theatre. I feel like I missed a beautiful opportunity. No one referred this film to me in time, or else I would have definitely experienced it on the big screen — which it truly deserves.

This film left me stunned and speechless. I was completely hooked from start to finish, unable to think of anything else. The concept is unbelievable, and the way the story builds around water and belief systems is something

Maargan is one of the most underrated crime thrillers in recent times. The story is not just a whodunnit—it tackles racism and colorism in a bold and intelligent way. The twist in the second half blew my mind! What we believe in the first half gets completely turned over later.

Every character acted perfectly—no overdrama, all natural performances. The villain is a surprise box and symbolic, not just evil for the sake of it.

Vijay Antony playing in 'Dhruv' character is really nice to see. I liked the make over used in the movie for the cast and screenplay was too good. The concept used in this movie to create thrilling experience is really awesome to see. This is different from usual movies. The 'Tamilarivu' character definition and acting was too good to see and the way he helped in unravelling the case was interesting to see.

I liked second half more than the first half because nothing much happened in the first

Maargan isn't just a movie — it's a mirror to the pain many of us hide in silence. I felt every scene deep in my soul. From childhood, I faced colourism — being judged and bullied simply for being darker. But over time, I discovered a truth: pain can be powerful. Society may praise fair skin, but only real strength comes from embracing your shade with pride. I’ve seen how some people who were once proud of their fairness couldn’t bear the thought of turning darker — that’s when I knew my confide

Really great Thriller that keeps you engaged till the end...

Vijay antony 's role was NOT A ONE MAN SHOW.... Every character had a screen space.. which actually made the movie more interesting to watch.

The theme,concept,acting,storyline definitely deserve a 10/10.

"Maargan" (2025) presents an intriguing concept with potential for a gripping narrative, yet it ultimately struggles to fully coalesce into a consistently engaging cinematic experience. While the film offers some compelling elements, there's an underlying disconnect that prevents it from truly resonating.

The film introduces a premise that feels fresh and potentially thought-provoking, hinting at deeper themes or an unconventional plot. It draws the viewer in with its initial setup, suggesting

Maargan is a good crime thriller where Vijay Antony plays a police officer who solves strange murders with mysterious burn marks on victims. The film smartly mixes crime solving with supernatural mystery elements, making it both thrilling and spooky. The story builds up slowly but becomes very exciting with surprising twists that keep you guessing.

With better pacing and stronger side characters, this thriller could have been even more impressive.

I watched this movie in last night. It was an excellent suspense thriller movie. Some scenes of the movie filmed in my home town, kanja malai (Siddhar kovil). Despite some superstitious things said about in the movie, screenplay makes me to get immersed till the end of the play. We should not think that fair skin is the only thing that can give a beautiful life.

I believe it is a mental concern to focus more on body and beauty rather than on knowledge and life.

Maargan is a new thriller genre that keeps us at edge always. Every scene has a precise and detailed story on why that happens. Each detail of the movie adds up to the next scenes when we watch the movie. Both Vijay Anthony sir's movie and Ajay dishan's acting very incredible. Ajay's characterization is very unique and new, has a mystery aura energy around him. This is nice movie without blood shed and still keeps the audience on the edge

A good suspense thriller worth watching. Vijay Antony always does some movie which is different in nature. The story is quite strong- full marks to the story writer. As mentioned, the hunt is for the unusual suspect. "When the entire sky is dark, why do the stars spark?" is quite an intriguing question that leads to zeroing in on the unusual suspect. Our natural tendency is to doubt all possible clues in the line of murder. Using Tamilarivu and his Siddha powers adds to the beauty of the film. T

Maargan is a pure thriller with no songs or love scenes, focusing instead on unique themes like the power of Tamil Siddhars in revealing hidden truths and the importance of water in life. Though the story is weak and feels almost absent, the emotions are portrayed well. The cinematography is impressive, and the casting is perfect for each role. Vijay Antony has little scope to perform due to the lack of a strong script, but the new faces have done a good job. Overall, it’s a one-time watch for i

Plus Points  Movie :

The core element typical of crime mystery thrillers is presented in a fresh and engaging way. Ajay Dhishan’s character is crafted to resonate deeply with the audience, and the different facets of his role stand out as the film’s biggest strength.

Vijay Antony delivers a calm and assured performance as the investigating officer. His distinctive look is sure to catch the eye of viewers. The mystery behind his unique appearance is cleverly maintained as a suspense element in the first half, which works effectively.

The emotional sequences depicting father-daughter and brother-sister relationships are well handled. The gripping narrative in the second half, paired with twists at the interval and climax, leaves a strong impact.

Minus Points Movie :

Though Vijay Antony performs well, his character’s writing is somewhat disappointing. His role in the flashback portions feels underdeveloped. Additionally, Samuthirakani is underutilized in a rather insignificant role.

Ajay Dhishan’s role loses its impact toward the film’s conclusion. The love track in the first half and several slow moments in the latter half hinder the pacing and may cause viewer disengagement.

While the climax twist is effective, the film’s ending falls flat and lacks a strong punch. The killer’s motive could have been explored more convincingly. The film maintains a serious tone throughout, and a few lighter or entertaining elements could have added balance

Technical Aspects:

Though director Leo John presents a unique story, his execution feels conventional. Despite skillfully designing Ajay Dhishan’s character, Leo John delivers an ordinary conclusion to his arc, which is quite disappointing.

Leo John also handles the editing but could have improved the pacing of the first half. Vijay Antony’s music and S. Yuvaraj’s cinematography stand out as highlights. The VFX is well done, though the overall production values are average.

Verdict:

Overall, *Maargan* is a crime investigative thriller that struggles to leave a lasting impression. While the premise is unique, the presentation is fairly routine. The first half drags, but the second half fares better. Ultimately, the film may not appeal to die-hard fans of crime thrillers.

Vijay Antony Biography

Vijay Antony is an Indian music composer, playback singer, producer and actor. Initially, he worked as a sound engineer and later became a music director. Antony, who joined Loyola College in 1998, started, after finishing college, his own studio named 'Audiophiles', where he first did sound engineering and later composed jingles for TV and documentaries. It was then when Aascar Ravichandran approached Antony to compose music for the film Dishyum and he eventually entered the Tamil film industry. However, the soundtrack of the film Sukran, directed by S. A. Chandrasekhar, was released first and became his debut album. Subsequently other directors, too, gave him the opportunity to compose for their films. He is the "most sought after" (Next to A.R. Rahman) music director after his great hits in Tamil movies like "Naaku Mukka" in Kadhalil Vizhunthen and "Aathichudi" from TN 07 AL 4777, which tremendously increased his fame. Vijay Anthony has also given music to Kannada movie Budhivanta starring Upendra, which was actually a remake of the Tamil film Naan Avanillai. As a music director, Vijay also holds the credit of winning the 2009 Cannes Golden Lion for the 'nakka mukka' commercial (for Times of India) in the Best of Music category. He was accused of plagiarism for the song "Unakena Naan" from the film Kadhalil Vizhunthen, although the CD mentions that the song's composer is the director himself. His debut as an actor was in the Tamil movie Naan. He is the first music director to venture out as an actor. Vijay Antony's Daughter Death Vijay Antony's daughter, Meera, a 16-year-old student, died by suicide at her residence in Chennai's Teynampet around 3 a.m. on September 19. The class 12 student was reportedly under stress. Her father found her hanging from the fan's hook with her dupatta. He took her to Kaveri Hospital, where she was declared dead. The film fraternity is deeply mourning this loss.

Samuthirakani Biography

P. Samuthirakani is a renowned Tamil film actor and director known for his versatile performances and impactful storytelling. He began his journey in the film industry as an assistant to the legendary director K. Balachander.

His breakthrough as a director came in 2009 with *Naadodigal*, which became a massive hit and was subsequently remade in three different languages. Alongside his directorial success, Samuthirakani has acted in numerous films and gained widespread acclaim for his roles in *Subramaniapuram* and *Easan*, both directed by M. Sasikumar.

Career

Samuthirakani entered the cinema world with the dream of becoming an actor despite facing skepticism about his looks and physique. He recalls, “People said I don’t have the looks or the physique for it. But I was unfazed. Insults are a part of life, I told myself, and I persevered.” His first minor acting opportunity came in Pandiarajan’s *Padikkira Vayasu*, where he had just one line. He humorously recounts having to “cringe and crawl before the assistant director” just to secure that scene, yet he never felt self-pity, believing that setbacks shouldn’t hold him back.

During this time, he began writing scenes and dialogues, acting them out in his room, which revealed his talent as a storyteller. His acting potential was recognized in *Subramaniapuram*, while *Naadodigal* established him as a skilled director.

Despite a lukewarm response to his debut film and the failure of his second directorial *Neranja Manasu* (starring Vijayakanth), Samuthirakani remained resilient. He returned to television, worked with his mentor K. Balachander’s unit, assisted director Ameer on *Paruthiveeran*, and continued to hone his craft.

His persistence paid off when director Sasikumar cast him in significant roles in *Subramaniapuram* and *Easan*, boosting his acting career.

Awards

In 2016, Samuthirakani won the National Award for Best Supporting Actor for his powerful performance in the film Visaranai
